Erice 
A 30 minuti di auto da Scopello ,750 metri sul mare, dove per secoli gli uomini si sono contesi questo luogo, sorge Erice, fondata molto probabilmente dai misteriosi elimi, che organizzavano i propri villaggi in luoghi inaccessibili su erte montagne, per essere al riparo da possibili incursioni nemiche. Denominata dai sicano-èlimi Iruka, dai punici Erech, dai greci e romani Eryx, dai musulmani Gebel – Hamid, Erice fu ribattezzata dai Normanni Monte S. Giuliano, per annullare e interrompere il culto pagano di Venere che aveva reso famoso nel mondo il monte, il quale in passato era stato il luogo di culto dell’amore e delle grandi feste estive sacrificali a cui accorrevano folle di pellegrini.Nel borgo di Erice, ritornata toponimo nel 1934 di forma triangolare equilateral overlooking flower-filled courtyards enclosed by the walls, small houses, cobbled streets and stone designs on the highest point of the ruins of the temple, stands the Castle of Venus Balio.Centro adjacent to the gardens of the great tourist attraction is also known as the "science city", as the seat of the Centre "Ettore Majorana" chaired by scientist Antonino Zichichi, where there are often held important international scientific conferences.
